Place of construction:

Place of construction is very important thing to consider while construction of the artificial climbing wall. The place must be free from various types of earth movement. The place must have good rock surface as the wall should stand firm. Other factors like still water, loose soil etc. can also have effect on the construction.

Indoor or Outdoor:

There are major two types of an Artificial Climbing Wall – Indoor and Outdoor. Indoor was are the walls built inside of a building and Outdoor Walls are the walls built outside of the building.

From structure point of view, Climbing wall have two types – Supported Walls & Self Standing Walls. Supported Walls are walls fixed on any building and Self-Standing walls are the walls fixed on its own base. In both structures, even if the overall wall looks same, structures are to be built in different manners.

Campsite owner must decide the Height before constructing a wall. If campsite owner wanted his visitors just to experience basic climbing, he can go for ‘Bouldering Wall’. A bouldering wall is a wall with a height up-to 12-15 Feet. The base area of the wall should be in good ratio with its height. The ratio will keep the wall stable on ground.

Targeted Users:

Campsite owner should confirm the targeted users of the wall to decide its strength. In simple words, if users of the wall are less, a comparatively less strong wall can be built. But if the users of the wall are more, then the wall should be bombproof. Number of users will decide whether the wall should be built in wood or FRP.

The purpose means the intention of building the wall. An artificial climbing wall can be built for bouldering, sports climbing & rappelling or competition. The structures are different for different purposes.
